Touring Ballarat

Ballarat Australia is drenched in history. The gold rush of the mid 1800s left an indelible mark on the city's landscape and many of the attractions in Ballarat relate to that time.

Follow a Ballarat walking trail to view the beautiful buildings, legacy to that era. Visit Lydiard Street in Ballarat, with its many Victorian buildings, the Titanic Memorial bandstand – monument to the band that played on the Titanic when it sank and visit other historic buildings such as the Post Office and Her Majesty's Theatre.

Collect a map of Ballarat and follow the Ballarat Gold Trail with its 16 gold-related landmarks. Allow plenty of time to stop in to the Sovereign Hill historical village. Ballarat's Sovereign Hill is a re-created mining village, complete with main streets, shops, a winding creek where you can pan for gold, and an underground gold mine to explore.

Sovereign Hill is also the site of 'Blood on the Southern Cross' a nightly sound and light spectacular that recreates the atmosphere of the Eureka stockade.
